Our History

Rooted in Sembawang's Heritage

Assyafaah Mosque carries the legacy of two beloved mosques that served the northern community before redevelopment transformed the area.

1920s

Masjid Jumah Sembawang Founded

Established along Sembawang Road by Indian Muslim migrants who came to Singapore to work in the Naval Base, one of the earliest mosques in the north.

1968

Masjid Naval Base Built

A second mosque was constructed at the junction of Canberra Road and Delhi Road to serve the growing Naval Base community.

2000

Mosque Building Fund Approved

The Mosque Building Fund (MBF) scheme approved the construction of a new, unified mosque to replace both historical mosques as redevelopment progressed.

2004

Assyafaah Mosque Opens

The 4-storey mosque at 1 Admiralty Lane officially opened, accommodating up to 4,000 congregants and serving as the northern community’s spiritual anchor.
